Recognising Excellence

This year’s awards saw a record number of entries, with the independent judging panel praising the quality and complexity of submissions. Henderson Demolition was proud to take home awards in the following categories:

  • 🏆 Health and Safety Best Practice

    • Our “Go Simple, Go Digital” initiative has revolutionised our health and safety management. By reviewing and redesigning key safety documents like Asbestos Removal Control Plans and Site Specific Safety Plans, we improved clarity and accessibility with QR codes.

    • We also digitised daily checklists and inspections for real-time reporting, empowering teams and fostering a culture of engagement, participation, and continuous improvement.

    • This initiative has enhanced communication, monitoring, and client relations, demonstrating our commitment to integrating technology and best practices for safer work environments across all projects.

  • 🏆 Class A Asbestos Removal Best Practice

    • This 12-month asbestos removal project involved safely removing over 245 tonnes of asbestos-containing materials in a high-traffic, high-risk, security-sensitive, operational environment.

    • Faced with structural challenges, 5000 sqm of hidden asbestos, and confined spaces, the Henderson team utilised innovative techniques like precision core drilling and custom containment solutions.

    • Despite multiple scope revisions, the project was completed safely, complying with requirements from multiple stakeholders, and ensuring strict regulatory compliance and the safety of workers, thanks to a highly responsive and adaptable approach.

  • 🏆 Class B Asbestos Removal Best Practice

    • This project involved the safe removal of Class B asbestos-containing cladding from the exterior of an active supermarket.

    • Staged removal across day and night shifts, widened scaffolding design for safe access, and strategic planning and controls for weather tightness and public safety were critical to managing risks in this busy, high-traffic location.

    • Through careful coordination with the client, the team completed the project efficiently, safeguarding public health and maintaining compliance with WorkSafe New Zealand standards.

  • 🏆 Under $20K Project Best Practice

    • The removal of a portacom at an active Port showcased our ability to navigate tight timelines and logistical challenges.

    • Unable to gain full access to the site within the necessary timeframe, we employed an offsite demolition strategy, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards while maintaining client satisfaction.

    • Utilising three drivers to deal with the lifting and transportation of the portacom, allowed this small-scale project to be carried out with minimal disruptions or delays, and allowed the manual demolition team to appropriately deal with the ThermoPanel EPS material in a controlled environment off-site.

  • 🏆 Employee of the Year

    • Ashmita Singh, originally in the accounts team, transitioned to the role of estimator at Henderson Demolition, where her exceptional attitude, attention to detail, and willingness to learn have made her a key asset to the team.

    • Over the past 12 months, she has excelled in managing residential and school projects and has recently taken on larger responsibilities, including overseeing major government clients and tenders. She priced 239 jobs out of a total 579 projects completed by the pricing team.

    • In what was a unanimous decision, the judges awarded Ash the Employee of the Year Award. As one of a few females to receive recognition in the industry, Ash’s achievement paves the way for more women to follow in her footsteps.

  • 🏆 Demolition & Asbestos Contractor of the Year

    • The Contractor of the Year Award is unable to be nominated for and is chosen by the judges from across all the entries that were received.

    • This year’s Contractor of the Year award recipient was Henderson Demolition who were commended by the judges for the diverse range of projects they submitted across the award categories this year.

Looking to the Future

The evening highlighted Henderson Demolition’s capacity to not only meet industry standards but exceed them across diverse project types.

Winning six awards is a testament to the dedication, innovation, and hard work of our entire team. Each project, whether large or small, presents its own unique challenges, and our success is built on the passion and professionalism our people bring to every job.

As the team celebrates their successes, Henderson Demolition remains focused on the future. The company aims to continue raising the bar for safety, sustainability, and innovation within the demolition and asbestos removal sectors.

These awards are a reminder of what’s possible when a team comes together with a shared vision of excellence. While we’re proud of what we’ve achieved, we know the work doesn’t stop here. We’ll keep pushing boundaries and finding new ways to lead in this industry.
